Martyrs guide our collective journey toward justice. When the soul departs from the physical body and ascends into martyrdom, it leaves behind an eternal force, propelling society toward liberation. Both New Afrikan (Black) and Palestinian people have given rise to martyrs who have sacrificed everything for the dignity of our communities, resisting the humiliation of oppression. Our mural symbolizes the living energy of these martyrs, while also illustrating how their spirits continue to inspire those still engaged in the fight. This is why not everyone portrayed in this mural is a martyr, as it symbolizes the symbiotic relationship between our martyrs and those who are still fighting for justice in the flesh. This mural is not just a commemoration, but it’s also a call to action to continue building (New) Afrikan and Palestinian solidarity within the belly of the beast and across the world, as our liberation is interlinked! Free the land! From Oakland to Gaza! Long live our Martyrs!
